CARONI BIRD SANCTUARY BOAT TOUR
Time: 2:45pm – 6:45pm approx.
Duration: 4 hours
Upon arrival you will board a large flat-bottomed boat with outboard motor and slowly travel along the beautiful waterways admiring the unusual landscape and variety of birds, crustaceans and other wildlife. Birds you may spot include the neo-tropical cormorant, large-billed tern, tri-coloured heron, red-capped cardinal, snowy egret and bicoloured cane-bill – to name just a few. Red, black and white mangroves populate the edges of the waterways and many tiny oysters cling to the roots of the mangroves. There are also possible sightings of non-poisonous snakes in the branches of the trees, caimans or silky anteaters. Arriving in the wide lagoon, the boat becomes your floating vantage point to witness the protected brightly coloured Scarlet Ibis. The birds feed and nest in this area and every sunset they fly in unison to roost, a spectacular cloud of red against the evening sky. They settle in the mangroves as the sun is setting, the quiet atmosphere of the lagoon adding atmosphere to a memorable trip.
DAY 2: TRINIDAD
TRINIDAD HIGHLIGHTS

Departing from your hotel, we make our way through downtown Port of Spain taking in the Parliament, Supreme Court, shopping streets and the city’s bustling centre, Independence Square. Heading out of town we view the Queens Park Savannah, a 200-acre recreational park lined with exotic trees and interesting colonial style mansions with amazing architectural designs. The drive leads us through the residential areas of St. Clair and Maraval close to the capital, Port of Spain, before continuing up to the scenic North Coast Road we enjoy spectacular views of the Paramin Hills, rainforest-covered Northern Range Mountains and the Caribbean Sea – with plenty of opportunities for photographs.
Upon arriving at Maracas Bay – a beautiful palm-fringed beach backed by verdant mountains. Here you can swim, take a walk along the beach, or just relax at one of the beach huts for a cool drink and a Bake & Shark, a hot crispy shark sandwich with homemade bread.

Time: 10:00am – 5:00pm approx.
Duration: 7 hours
Our sightseeing tour leads us to the Buccoo Reef to admire the underwater world of the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. Then we continue our tour which is conducted by our knowledgeable tour guide who will give you an insight into Tobago’s history at Fort King George and the Mystery Tomb Stone in Plymouth. Another stop on the sightseeing tour will be the vegetable market in Scarborough which is a typical Caribbean style vending area ideal to purchase some of Tobago’s delicious fruits or some freshly ground spices such as Saffron, Anise, Curry, Cinnamon etc. Leaving Scarborough, Tobago’s Capital, our sightseeing tour carries on with a scenic drive along the Caribbean Coast passing villages such as Mount Irvine and Black Rock with their gorgeous, palm fringed beaches.

DAY 4: TRINIDAD
ASA WRIGHT NATURE CENTRE

Duration: 8 hours
Highway and Rainforest Drive to world famous Asa Wright Nature Centre/ Old Plantation House. Visit with Panoramic View from veranda / Birds and Wildlife close-up / Guided Walk in Rainforest Internationally famous for birdwatching, and situated inside the 800.000square metres Spring Hill Estate, the AWNC was originally a coffee, citrus and cocoa plantation, founded by Mr Meyer who was of German origin. AWNC is the Caribbean’s most popular bird watching retreat with 75 staff members. At 360metres above sea level the views of the rainforest are incredible, the veranda has attracted a huge variety of birds; you can see up to 40 species per day, face-level feeders on the Great House’s veranda attract dazzlingly colourful, thumb-sized humming birds and trays of fruit below are gorged upon by Green and Red Legged Honeycreepers and many other colourful birds.
The multitude of birds attracts a daily visitors, both bird watchers and just nature enthusiasts. There is a small bar at the veranda and a small shop selling locally made crafts, field guides, local coffee and bird feeders. A network of well-marked trails of various lengths threads through the grounds, which you can only explore in a group tour. We join one of the expertly conducted guided tours, a wonderful nature walk on the Discovery trail. We learn about medicinal plants, insects and
the history of the centre. There is also a small natural spring where you can wet your feet in the cool refreshing water.
